Participant
New year new shoes? Okay, maybe that’s not a thing, but considering that we just entered a whole new decade, it’s fully justifiable to treat yourself to a pair of shoes. The dawn of 2020 brought us a fresh set of footwear trends, so we talked to the experts at Bloomingdales and Net-A-Porter for their predictions on the the biggest of the year (you know, so you can feel better about splurging). The good news is that not all comfort will be sacrificed this year. Step up your shoe game with their insider information ahead.

Picking out the perfect pair of white sneakers is no mean feat-like most fashion staples, there is an overwhelming number of trendy riffs on the style. Who can forget the time when Stan Smiths peeked out from underneath every street style star’s trousers, and you couldn’t walk around New York without seeing both tourists and city dwellers in a pair? Then, shortly Golden Goose Slide after, the chunky dad sneakers had their moment, beloved by fashion girls (and guys!) from Scandi style darlings to hypebeasts.

My thought process when I notice it looks rainy outside and I have a run scheduled typically looks something like this: Yuck. I should skip it. But recently, I learned a hard lesson about rainy runs during a jaunt through the park on a particularly blustery day. If it’s pouring and you don’t have the right shoes, it’s not going to be a good time, no matter how many movie scenes you try to play Golden Goose Shoes out in your mind.

The it-shoe of the winter is the knee-high boot,” says Erica Russo, Bloomingdale’s vice president and fashion director. “It’s been awhile since the style has been front and center, and it’s a great investment piece you can have for years to come.” The knee-high has been a sleeper style in the wake of the ankle bootie, but the ’70s silhouette is back with a vengeance.

In fact, a winter bride might have even more shoe options than a summer bride-classic pumps not only come in satins GGDB Slide and silks, but also suedes and crisp patent leathers too. Embellished mules might come with velvet and ostrich feathers, while even a pair of bridal boots can work for the occasion. Rhinestone and crystals give a nice nod to the festive season, without crossing the line into tacky.
